Avant sa disparition prochaine(dématérialisation oblige !) il m'a semblé intéressant de raconter l'histoire de ce petit morceau de papier cartonné qui est d'abord pour beaucoup une véritable "Madeleine de Proust", mais aussi un des reflets de l'évolution de la vie parisienne. 15 centimes pour un billet de seconde classe, 20 centimes pour un Aller & Retour et 25 centimes pour la première classe. Voila le tarif en " anciens francs" au jour de l'inauguration de la première ligne de métro qui reliait alors la porte Maillot à la porte de Vincennes en 30 minutes. Le jour de l'inauguration 30 000 billets auront été vendus. Très rapidement ont passa sur du carton imprimé d'un format de 57 X 30 mm. Les principales indications portées sur le billet étaient les suivantes : nom de la compagnie, la classe, le prix, la date de délivrance, une lettre correspondant au tarif( à partir de 1925), un numéro de série.<br />

Juste après la guerre de 1914-1918, le prix du ticket de métro connaît sa première augmentation de 5 centimes... Le prix du billet de seconde classe passe donc à 20 centimes et celui de première à 30 centimes. Elle sera suivit rapidement par d'autres.</div>

C'est en 1925 qu'apparaît sur les tickets le principe de faire correspondre une lettre à un tarif. Désormais chaque nouvelle augmentation sera matérialisée par une nouvelle lettre. Ce principe va durer jusqu'au milieu des années 1970. </div>

Parallèlement au développement de la Compagnie du Chemin de Fer métropolitain, une autre concession est attribuée à la Société Berlier-Janicot qui réalise son propre réseau la compagnie du "Nord Sud". Cette compagnie exploitait un tronçon équivalent aujourd'hui aux lignes 12 et 13. Cette année là, le métro connait un pic de fréquentation ( un milliard de voyageurs transportés). La cause de ce pic majeur est liée au rationnement qu'imposent l'occupation allemande et qui fait disparaitre notamment les pneumatiques et surtout l'essence ( donc plus de voitures particulières et quasiment plus de bus). Les parisiens n'ont donc plus le choix qu'entre le vélo et le métro pour leurs déplacements. Afin d'apporter une réponse de simplification tarifaire a cet afflux de voyageurs ont crée donc la première carte hebdomadaire de travail. </div>

Durant l'occupation, Juliette Gréco est arrêtée avec sa soeur par la Gestapo à Paris (elle a 16 ans !) et après plusieurs semaines d'incarceration elle est finalement libérée (sa soeur elle sera déportée). A sa sortie du siège de la gestapo, dans une ville qu'elle ne connait pas, il ne lui reste qu'un jeton de téléphone et un ticket de métro (un Aller & Retour, mais déjà composté pour un trajet). Le jeton lui permettra de téléphoner à la seule personne qu'elle connait sur la capitale (une ancienne professeur de Français)et grâce à ce ticket de métro valable encore pour un voyage, il lui permettra de la rejoindre la pension de famille indiquée par sa professeur et ou elle se cachera le reste de l'occupation. Cette pension de famille était située à Saint Germain des Près ou sa carrière débuta juste après la libération...</div>

Mais alors pourquoi avoir également oublié également le tarif R ? la raison est sans doute plus pragmatique que cela. Elle est sans doute due au fait qu'il existait un risque de confusion pour les poinçonneurs entre les lettre O et Q d'une part et d'autre part, peut être le risque d'offrir à d'éventuels resquilleurs la possibilité relativement facile de maquiller un O en Q et également un P en R tout cela en rajoutant un simple trait ? mais à ce jour le mystère reste entier !</div>
